Grave stones of Cromarty

So I started the day with a little watercolour of the Cassey falls that we saw yesterday up by a town called Bonar Bridge, near a town called Dornoch.

A quiet pool after the Cassey falls.
A rather tall Hugh Miller

We went for a walk through some bush and found Hugh, then wandered into this very old grave site. We love a good graveyard with stories of people long gone.

Found the ruins of an old church in the graveyard.
Erected in 1783. That’s old.

I do want to return and perhaps do some rubbings. Even the wall were the plaque is!! Look at that texture.

So!! I’ve moved my studio space for the next week. I’ve been offered the “studio “ (garage) at the back of our accommodation and as it is so handy my gear is now in there. Although the stables was an amazing space, I was there on my own so I thought I might as well be in the village on my own. Shirley starts her residency next week so it will be her space then and I will be back at the Stables for my final 3 days.

My studio space for the next week.
A bit like Waihi beach, the foreshore has large rocks to protect the land from erosion.
My mauve Heather hills.

Loving all your feedback. I’m sorry I can’t answer them all personally. I do hope your queries are answered in the blog though.

Til tomorrow. Pamela

  1. Your new studio looks spacious, light and airy, Great! Paul and I too like wandering through old cemeteries; so much history of days and people gone by.
Lots of neat watercolours now. Well done you! xx

  2. Somewhere in Cromarty theres a cemetery known as the Pirates graveyard because there are stones with skull and crossbones on them. Love your studio space.
