Rainy day on Skye

It’s Sunday so a slow start to the day. Sat at the window and painted those colourful houses again.

Portree harbour

Went for a drive to find a distillery. The Talisker distillery in the Loch of Harport. The tours were booked out so Margaret had a wee dram, then we went up the road to visit an artist’s studio but she was closed so we went further up the road to find the Fairy Falls. The mist came down and we couldn’t see anything!!! So we came home.

The Talisker distillery has been operating since 1830 and does a lot of eco work in the ocean and waterways. This statement is so true so I took a photo for you.

For those of you who also swim in the sea, you will understand and relate.

The tide was out when we got back to Portree so I walked along the waterfront and took some photos.

The rocks along the shore were very colourful. If you look hard you can see many treasures. Pieces of broken crockery and glass from bottles.
Lots of seaweed on the shore.
Plaque about Mary MacPherson.

Mary was a poet and bard from the Iles of Skye. Mary had ‘guts’ as she personally protested for the rights of Crofters who were forced off their lands, known as the clearances. Although she could read, she couldn’t write so her poetry and stories were written as she spoke them. A strong Scottish woman. This is on the home where she last lived. About 3 doors from our accomodation.

Tidal

While the tide is out the boat is having maintenance.

Hope you are all well and still enjoying my journey. I’m loving that you are all still with me and giving feedback.

  2. It’s many years since I was in Skye! A romantic place and the setting of some historical romantic books I have read! Beautiful colourful houses, Pam! I’m now in Perth, Australia!
