Back in Casablanca

Departure from our Riad Alglia on the road again. Hassan suggested we take a bit of a detour and visit the Atlas mountains and the city of Ifrane. The Switzerland of Morroco.

Steep roofs of the houses. The French influence with the orange tiles.
The green tiles means a Muslim family lives there,

Because it is high in the Atlas Mountains it is covered in snow for 2 or 3 months of the year. They do manage to grow apples, peaches, grapes, and even pomegranate.

Hassan stopped on the side of the road and got us a gift and one for his family.
Sat in the back of the van and chomped our way through some beautiful fruit.

Finished it off then thought ‘ should have done a still life’. I guess I still have a photo.

The other product they produce is onions. Acres of them.

They harvest the onions and lay them on specially raised stone walls and cover with hay and plastic. It preserves them for longer marketing times.

These were just hanging out on the side of the road. First time of seeing camels outside of the food hall.
Driving back into Casablanca. Seems many days that we were here but it was only 5.

Tomorrow we start a 9 day trip to Egypt. So hang in there.

I’m impressed with all of you who give me feedback everyday, saying how much you like the daily updates. I’m also impressed with myself for keeping at it for almost 50 days so far. Not everyday has a sketch. Like today.

  1. Eygpt sounds exciting hope Ken finds where his Dad was. Glad Morocco turned out to be so amazing. Sorry we didn’t get you any pomegranates!
