The Pyramids of Giza

The view out the hotel window early this morning.

Ibrahim is our guide today. Just him and us taking us around the Egyptian Museum and the pyramids. We were very privileged to have him as he is an Egyptologist with a MA in Egyptian Antiquities. So knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all things Egyptian. He was continually laughing, talking and saying “isn’t this a miracle. So amazing and magical.“ His enthusiasm was very infectious.

The Museum of Egyptology.

There are over 1M exhibits so Ibrahim did just the highlights for us. Such a good idea because even that caused information overload.

Exhibits that he showed us dated to 4600 BC
2nd pyramid of this pharaoh.o

Basically there are 3 main pyramids at Giza all dating back to earlier than 4000 BC.

1st one has only a tiny little statue of this Pharaoh. So small I can’t find it on my photos. Anyway this purpose was to unite the North of the country with the South.

2nd Pyramid was built by his son.

The falcon sits behind his head protecting his wisdom.
The third Pyramid built by this pharaoh. Grandson of the first pyramid guy. Flanked by 2 women. Notice their hands on his arms and their feet are square whereas his the left in front of the right. Showing his status as a king.
Eyes made of alibaster.

So much information in the museum that I’m not going to go into it all here. You’ll just have to check it out yourself.

Us with Ibrahim at the pyramids. 1, 2, and3.

Ibrahim was into doing funny pictures.
Kissing the Syphinx
Blocks of the pyramids. Each block between 2 and 20 ton.

No they weren’t put there by aliens either. Stupid idea.

I did not like the idea of riding a camel but plenty did.
Quick sketch from the balcony.before going to bed.
