At early start (4am) out of Cairo to fly to Aswan. Never left to ourselves to fumble through customs etc, always a friendly professional guide with a personal driver. Definitely worth it for old fellas like us.
Got to the boat, had some lunch, then off out with Osama to visit the Aswan High Dam. Quite interesting for Ken who worked on the automation of the Waikato River dams for 10 years. Then back in the air conditioning to go to the temple of Philae. Rebuilt, stone by stone on this Island when the High dam was being constructed and would have destroyed it when flooded.

The Roman temple of Philae. Took a little motor boat across to the Temple.

The multiple columns outside the birthing temple. The tops are flowers. The lotus and the papyrus.

I drove the boat back to the wharf from the temple. ( not actually all the way) The young guy let me drive it. Said he wanted a rest (via our translator) and we also learnt he was an electrician. So made another connection with Ken.

There is really bad internet and I may not be able to send anything when we sail. Don’t panic. I will be back to you but it may not be daily.
My Arabic word for today was thank you . Said like ‘shake run’. I love the smiles I get when I say it. Let’s hope I am saying what I think I’m saying.🤣

It’s lovely reading these blogs, it brings back many wonderful memories. It’s hard to get your head around how many thousands of years old these artifacts are. I didn’t like the camels at the pyramids either. Very smelly.
