Farewell to Egypt

Tonight we start our long journey home. Alexandria to Dubai with a bit of a rest up then 17 hours to Auckland. So today we had an unstructured day. So good. Late breakfast then a walk along the beach which is across the road from our hotel.

The wall around the rocks and foreshore. Someone is in the water.

It was a major mission to get across the road because there were no gaps. Lots of vehicles all honking their horns. So we acted like a local and stepped out. Put a hand up and kept walking!!! I’m here to tell the tale.

Our hotel Cecil, Alexandria. Built in 1933. Felt very spoilt.
Not our hotel but loved the architecture.
Photo to prove I did go to Alexandria
It’s a huge harbour at Alexandria and I think I like it cos it’s water.
A beautiful sculpture along the walkway.
The water looks ok in the photo but it was full of plastic bottles, wrapping and other pollutants. I would not have been putting my children in it that’s for sure.

We walked for a couple of hours and felt it was time to head back to the hotel. Then we were ‘captured’ by a hairdresser and his 4 assistants. I convinced Ken he should have a haircut and surprisingly he agreed. The 5 guys were chatting away and laughing but did a very good job. He probably won’t need another one for 6 months.

As promised some sketches to end.

Sunset from our balcony.
Working on the salt lakes, Alexandria.

I’m going to leave you now.

I’m so pleased I did the blog most days as it is a record for me as well. I’ve already forgotten somethings that happened. it also made me sketch most days.

The best part was sharing it with you all, I felt I was just telling my friend what I’ve done and silly things that happened. I have heard from a lot of you over the 2 months but how about a final word from all of you. Did I do good?

  5. Totally enjoyed your comments, and pics of places and paintings. A real personal travelogue. So many different architectural styles, and so many really ancient sites that a lot of us will never get to see personally. Thank you for sticking with the task of keeping up your blog, we’ve been impressed by your journey. See you soon. Safe travels.
