Almost the end of March.

So I know it’s not April when I do my next blog but I wanted to share with you the daily sketches I have done while we have been travelling in our van.

After my last post we moved on to Lawrence. We stayed the night in camping grounds and just over the fence were these fellas.

Highland cattle in Lawrence.

It was cold and wet so we went up the Ida Valley to visit the Hayes museum. Mr Hayes was the inventor /manufacturer of wire strainers. (Keep the wires tight when making a wire fence.)

Hayes Homestead
Stables and sleeping quarters for the workers.
Hayes little shop and cafe.

We stayed overnight in the paddock at Hayes. It was a frost so very cold.🥶

Found a cafe at Middlemarch and had a cuppa on the side of the road, with time for a sketch.

The Kissing Gate cafe.
View while we had a cuppa.
Great spot to chill out and sketch.

In Dunedin we piled into Cousin Robyn’s car and drove up a drive to this old castle that was in need of lots of attention.

Cargill Castle
Otago University
Olveston House.

We saw the famous Moeraki boulders on the beach.

Then on to Oamaru.

Buildings made from Oamaru stone.
Still unsure if this guy really was sitting up there fishing???
The old market street in Oamaru, where we spent lots of time looking in the galleries and stores. I even bought a block of Oamaru stone that I will carve.
Church of the Good Shepherd, Tekapo.

There were bus loads of tourists which I did not sketch!!!

Watching the sun go down over Lake Tekapo.
Driving out to the Hermitage at Mount Cook. Beautiful hot sunny day.
Akaroa Harbour

There is something so special about Akaroa, our own little piece of France. 🇫🇷

Langlois Etevensaux Cottage 1843.
Orion Powerhouse art gallery Akaroa

I did lots of sketches of the old houses of the area.

We moved up country to the Kaikoura coast and almost walked over this fellow sleeping in the sun.

Sailing out of Picton
Camping in a paddock in Featherston

On our way home with many happy memories and LOTS of sketches.

Lots of things are happening next month so I will keep you up to date.

I hope you have enjoyed my journey via sketches.

  2. hi Pam

We visited the Orion gallery in Akaroa because there was a fantastic watercolour exhibition of Nancy Tichbournes. She died last year. We knew her when she lived in Rotorua.

Another great watercolourist who spent time in Rotorua like you.

    Mary
