July catchup

Winter has arrived at the beach. Cold nights but beautiful sunny days. How about this for a stunning late evening glow.

Sunset on the beach.

I often want to paint scenes like this but really, I couldn’t do it justice. I love the contrast of the dark trees against the colours in the sky. The reflections of the clouds in the wet sand and the gentle little wave in the sea. Why would you want to paint what is already perfection?

June was a time for family in Australia. I did lots of sketches over the time to remind me where we went. This is of the Ross River in Townsville where our holiday apartment was located. A little on a lean, but only because my sketchbook was leaning.

Each morning many dogs, people and bikes enjoyed the path alongside the river.

After the week in Townsville with went to Brisbane for a week with family there before coming home. While in Brisbane I love to visit the Queensland Art Gallery. The foyer often has an installation in the water. This time it was quite striking.

So now we are back home and I’m really having to ‘knuckle down’ and do lots of work for the busy season ahead.

What I am very excited to tell you about is that I have been invited to be the guest artist ( 2 of us) at the exhibition of SPLASH, the national exhibition of Watercolour New Zealand. This year it will be held between 18th to 28th October at Pataka exhibition space in Porirua. So a new series is underway for this big event. I will be exhibiting along with fellow artist Dennis Greenwood.

This coming weekend, 13th July, I am working with a group of artists in Tauranga doing a workshop. Looking forward to meeting with lots of enthusiastic watercolourists and sharing my ideas.

Sometimes where you are, or where you have been, influences the colours you use. I refer to this one as ‘ After Australia’

I hope you have enjoyed my blog this month. As always, I love your feedback.
