Decidedly December

The end of the year is fast approaching and I am feeling that a rest is due.

The Garden and Art festival was four days of lots of people who asked questions about my art and were genuinely interested in my work. Such a great networking opportunity. Not a lot of sales but already I have had contact with people who saw my work and have bought since the festival.

The great thing about the festival is meeting with other artists and sharing in their enthusiasm and knowledge. As a practicing artist I am often working in a solitary situation for days on end and to have four days being with other artists was very special.

All artists in the festival had one piece of their work exhibited in the Cargo shed. My piece was put next to the wonderful work of Shona McKenzie @ shonamackenzie_art and they looked amazing.

Over the last couple of weeks I’ve been experimenting with thicker use of watercolour. It’s a bit like working in acrylics so I’m not sure where it’s going but using card and other materials to make marks.

The first one had roofs appear!

Roofs and stairs

The next one I did was a little more soft but ladders and yachts appeared.

I hate green paint with a passion. My greens are always made from blue and yellows of different shades and tones so this painting pushed my comfort level to new heights. My anxiety level was up there as I squeezed the green from its tube. I don’t mind it within this piece as it is. Maybe there is some therapy going on there. 😂

During this week I have had my last mentor session with the wonderful Liz Cooper @liz_cooperlondon. During this year Liz has been there as a sounding board, challenger of ideas and supporter of my artistic journey. Having Liz has made me realise how important a mentor is. Something I shall seriously consider for the next year.

Well, one more week of busy, end of year art functions.

Tauranga Urban sketchers met at Pilot Bay, at the Mount. Then catch up and show and tell over lunch. There was a cruise ship in so lots of people and school end of year functions. A visual overdose!!

Creative Connections met at the White House in Te Puna for lunch and get together. A great opportunity for artists of all genres to be together.

Waihi Plein air painters at the Surf Club end of Waihi Beach.

Lots of ‘catching up’ and some sketching.

My final workshop for the year will be on Saturday for the Tauranga Society of Artists. Abstraction in Watercolour.

A fun day to be had.

My last newsletter for the year and I want to wish you all a very merry Christmas a Happy New Year and a wonderful holiday season.

I’ll be back next year.

  1. Merry Christmas Pam and all the best for 2025! I have so enjoyed your blogs and seeing all you little watercolour sketches. So many beautiful paintings.  You are very talented! We have a big European trip coming up next year. I was visualizing myself taking a sketch book and trying my hand at recording some of the sights of the Isle of Mull, Devon, Spain, Portugal, Alsace, France and the Alps! Might all be in my head, but hopefully when I get home can do something inspiring! All the best for a festive season  Marg Campbell Sent from my Galaxy

  3. Thank you Pam for the fantastic workshop at TSA last Saturday, where you provided the opportunity for me to use watercolour in such a different way, without a paintbrush in my hand! I loved the creativity of the course and am very pleased with my efforts. I’ve been dabbling with them today lifting highlights, extending some detail, and popped matts around them…..Voilà! All the very best for 2025 and lots more creativity 🖌🎨😊
