Hi followers.
January has flashed by and now it’s February and my granddaughter has already notified me that I’m running late with my blog. So here I am recapping my month.

One of my little art group’s is called Unlimited Palette. A small group of artists of different genre that come together to talk about art things. We visited the Lavender garden in Waihi to sketch, paint and have lunch. No signs of any lavender farm paintings as yet, but who knows!!!
Within this group we also set challenges for ourselves, like on the 22/1 we each discussed an artist we had been studying and the artist I had studied was JMW Turner 1775-1851. An amazing artist but a sad reclusive man who lived in squalor when he died with a fortune of over $22million in today’s money. He started at the Royal Academy at 14 years old and at the age of 29 owned his own gallery in London. This was basically unheard of, not only because of his age but the fact that he was a practicing artist plus owned a gallery.
I’ll show you why I like his work.

Check out some of his other work on the internet.
As always my Open Studio is a source of both pleasure and frustration. I love to introduce people to my work but sometimes there is long periods of nobody visiting. To be fair it was beautiful weather and gorgeous down on the beach. This year I even had 2 visitors from Brisbane. My daughter and her husband enjoyed catching up with my latest work.

Another highlight of the month was going to the Historic Village in Tauranga to meet up with the Urban Sketchers group and a workshop with German sketcher Feliz Scheinberger.

We spent time at the village sketching.

A play around in the studio with some torn up watercolour paper was fun to create shapes.

Ripping up paper was the first part of my cleaning up. I want to start the year with a new body of work. Large boxes on top of the cupboard will hold paintings I want to keep but not frame. Do you know when Turner died he had over 3000 watercolours ? I just might be up there too!!
Thanks for reading. Will catch up next month.
