New York. New York.

Times Square on a cold evening. Skyscrapers in the clouds.

Crowds were in the street 24/7. We’ve not been to NY before so it really was a bombardment of all senses. The noise, the smells, the shuffle of people, so much energy in this place.

We had a day of sightseeing around Central Park, Broadway and everything in between. Caught the Statten Island Ferry and passed this lady.

The 9/11 memorial park is a must to all visitors to NY now. There are 2 pools that cover the footprint of the twin towers. One was empty, being cleaned. The other had many people leaning over watching the fall of water.

Twin Towers memorial pool. The list of those who died that day are written around the marble edge.

The greatest building in NY currently is the World Trade Centre. It is truly amazing. I hope this gives you some idea of the scale.

Across the street from memorial park is the Greek Orthodox Church. They couldn’t get lots of money to build a fancy building so the structure is a temporary measure. I liked the idea that the money went to the people, not a fancy building.

Central Greek Orthodox Church. Looks like a tent with a gold cross on the top.

New York has 2 great art museums. The Metropolitan Museum of Art and MOMA the Museum of Modern Art. With one day what do you choose???? MoMA won.

Picasso
Mondrian
Monet
Jackson Pollock
Don’t know the artist but an installation of tapestry with ropes of raku fired pottery and glass, accompanied by poetry and noises of ‘earth’

The final exhibition space was my favourite!! It made me smile.

What to do with the thousands of soft toys you accumulate.
A whole installation of stuffed together soft toys, all colour coordinated .

The other thing to do in NY is a Broadway show. Death Becomes Her is a new show that is based on the movie. Fabulous dancing and costumes with amazing singing.

Broadway musical

Now we are off to see the musical Alladin.

Tomorrow we go to our next destination.

See you then. Pamela
