Forever February

Already into February and I haven’t done my blog. So now’s the time!

The sun going down at Awakino. Can you see the sun?

It’s such a beautiful sight watching a sunset and also a sunrise. I try not to paint these pictures of perfection. You’ll hear comments from viewers saying “ that doesn’t look real!” Well it is true, it doesn’t look real but neither does the real thing! Beautiful images don’t always get better when you paint them. For me it’s sometimes best to paint the ugly, and show the beauty within.

Quick Mt Taranaki sketch

Up the track to the farm.

My cousin Helen, and I spent a delightful afternoon sketching my mountain and surrounding farmland. One fascinating aspect of the landscape was this property full of old buildings and broken down trucks.

Even the ugly has a story.

A highlight for this month was a visit from Susie from Chicago. Susie is a watercolour artist and enjoyed seeing my studio and watching as we painted a runny, drippy landscape that really painted itself.

Our combined painting, as we talked art.
Susie’s little paintings to fit in her ‘carry on’.

I do enjoy having visitors to my studio, so if you have visitors or want to spend some time talking art, get in touch.

I have 2 beginner classes coming up in February. Looking forward to meeting new people and sharing my love of this amazing medium, watercolour.

Tauranga Urban Sketchers meet in the coming week at the Mount shopping area. Images of cafés and people. Should be good practice.

Waihi Plein air painters will meet this week to decide on venues for the year ahead. If you wish to be part of this exciting group drop me a line.

Enjoy your month.

Regards
