Kia Ora to all my followers. Thanks for hanging in there. My blog comes out once a month with thoughts, observations and what has been produced over the month.

At home in the studio I’ve painted up a storm. It’s important to have a level of stock for the year ahead. Although the main exhibition season is from September through to December we have the Tauranga expo in April.

The entry form has been completed and I have been accepted, so if you are around Tauranga on these days pop in to see this amazing exhibition.
I’ve just returned from Tauranga this afternoon after joining the Tauranga Urban Sketchers for their monthly get together and sketching. We had the privilege of sitting in a gorgeous garden in the suburb of Matua.

My beginner watercolour class was fun. It’s great to have the class, meet new people and share ideas. You tube can be a wonderful resource when you are starting out with your painting but remember that the learning really starts when that brush/ pencil touches the paper. All the lessons and tutorials you do will never help if you don’t actually do anything. Your uniqueness cannot develop if you copy what others have done. Learn to play with your materials to understand how they work. Learn to play without the constraints of producing a pretty picture. What do you think?

Other opportunities this month include Waihi Plein air painters morning painting and an excursion up to the Mercury Bay open studios weekend with other artists. I’m looking forward to visiting some new studio spaces. If you are an artist in the Mercury Bay open studios, let me know, I’d love to visit.
Until next month. Ka kite ano.
