Edfu

Early start, a long wait in a que. A ride with a horse and gig and another temple. Ride on a horse and gig before the sun came up. The temple of Horus had another story. His father was Osiris, remember him? Got chopped up by his brother Stet. So when Horus grows up heContinue reading "Edfu"

Nubian village and Kom Ombo

One of the advantages of having our own guide is that we can talk to them and get personal responses every time. Or they do little things for us that they couldn’t do for a large group. We noticed that several times today. Ali is our guide on the Nile cruise. Each day he tellsContinue reading "Nubian village and Kom Ombo"

Aswan on the Nile

At early start (4am) out of Cairo to fly to Aswan. Never left to ourselves to fumble through customs etc, always a friendly professional guide with a personal driver. Definitely worth it for old fellas like us. Got to the boat, had some lunch, then off out with Osama to visit the Aswan High Dam.Continue reading "Aswan on the Nile"

The Pyramids of Giza

The view out the hotel window early this morning. Ibrahim is our guide today. Just him and us taking us around the Egyptian Museum and the pyramids. We were very privileged to have him as he is an Egyptologist with a MA in Egyptian Antiquities. So knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all things Egyptian. He wasContinue reading "The Pyramids of Giza"

Farewell Casablanca

Haven’t much to say about today really as there was lots of travelling. We said goodbye to our driver Hassan. I was genuinely a little tearful. He was so nice and loved to tell us about his country and his religion. I made him a little watercolour as a gift. I think he liked it.Continue reading "Farewell Casablanca"

Back in Casablanca

Departure from our Riad Alglia on the road again. Hassan suggested we take a bit of a detour and visit the Atlas mountains and the city of Ifrane. The Switzerland of Morroco. Steep roofs of the houses. The French influence with the orange tiles. The green tiles means a Muslim family lives there, Because itContinue reading "Back in Casablanca"

A Day in Fes

Our guide today was Abdul. He had been born in the Medina, the old city in Fes. This area dates back to 808AD. It houses the oldest university in Morocco ( possibly other places as well.) Ciao Montefalco

Caught the train back to Roma. Got on the right one, mainly cos Wendy directed us! Almost 2 hours on the train and it’s a gorgeous ride through the countryside. Got off at Roma Tiburtino where our tickets told us to. Then catch the train to Fiumicino Aeroporto. Guess what? They cancelled it.😭 So beingContinue reading "Ciao Montefalco"
