You know the ole country and western song of Ode to Billy Joel and something is thrown over the Tallahassee Bridge? Well I thought I could sketch it for you BUT, it burnt down in 1972. And that is about all there is to say on Tallahassee. We are doing a bit of a road trip and Tallahassee is our stop over.
Another stop was at a city called Mobile. Nothing remarkable about Mobile either but I was inspired to draw the church and fountain in the square.

I didn’t know much about New Orleans and when asked what I wanted to do there my answer was pretty simple, ‘eat gumbo and jambalaya, while listening to street musicians playing jazz’. Easily fixed!

Bourbon Street was full of loud music and many happy people. What a fabulous energy this place has!
On a more sedate note we took the tram or streetcar to the French Quarter of the city. Just like Paris there were many artists displaying their works along the sidewalk.

Actually got to see the great Mississippi with a paddle steamer on it.

Got on another tram and went for a ride through the’Mansion’ district.

I tried to do more sketches but I have run out of time. We are off to Houston today and on our way home.
I hope you have enjoyed coming along for the ride on my little sketching holiday. I have enjoyed it as it has made me do a sketch each day. Some of them rather wonky or scribbly but I look at them and they remind me more of the place than a photo does.
I must admit I’m going to enjoy getting back to my studio and breaking out with some LARGE works with LARGE brushes.
Taking a break now. Back in June.
Pamela.
yay! Loved keeping up with the trip this way and the sketches are so cute
